Head and Neck: CT of the head is commonly used to evaluate patients with headaches, dizziness, or neurologic deficits suggesting stroke. CT is also the first line imaging in the setting of head trauma. CT of the soft tissues of the neck is typically done for evaluation of neck mass. Click here for more information.
Sinuses: CT of the sinuses is primarily used for the detection of inflammatory disease, i.e. sinusitis, and for surgical planning. Click here for more information.
Chest: CT of the chest is used to evaluate signs or symptoms of chest disease such as shortness of breath, cough, fever, or chest pain. It is also used to follow up abnormalities seen on chest x-ray and to evaluate or follow up tumors. Click here for more information.
Abdomen and Pelvis: Abdominal and pelvic CT is generally used to evaluate abdominal or pelvic pain and diseases of the abdominal organs. Common conditions evaluated are appendicitis, diverticulitis, and kidney stones. CT is also performed to identify injuries in abdominal trauma and to evaluate masses or tumors. Quantitative CT (QCT) Bone Densitometry: Used to evaluate the bone mineral density of the spine and hips. QCT densitometry is used to diagnose osteoporosis and to follow treatment.
